Endemic to the coastal plains of the Southeastern United States, Sarracenia minor is easily recognized by its uniquely arching, helmet-like hood that completely covers the trap opening. To attract prey, the back of the pitcher tube is lined with translucent white fenestrations that act like translucent windows. With its rich copper-red top and green-and-bronze body, this species is a captivating addition to any carnivorous plant garden.

Care Instructions:

  • Light:Full outdoor sun (6+ hours of direct, unfiltered sunlight daily). Ample sunlight enhances the rich coppery-red coloration on its hoods.

  • Water: Distilled, reverse osmosis, or rainwater only. Keep the pot sitting in a shallow tray of water continuously throughout spring, summer, and fall.

  • Soil: A 4:1 mix of peat moss and perlite or coarse silica sand. Never use standard potting soil or added fertilizers.

  • Temperature & Hardiness: Heat and cold-hardy (USDA Zones 6–9). Thrives in warm, sunny weather throughout the growing season.

  • Winter Dormancy:Required. Needs a 3–4 month cool resting period between 32°F–50°F during winter. Pitchers will die back while the underground rhizome rests until spring growth returns.

Shipping Information:

  • Bare-Root Delivery: All carnivorous plants are shipped bare-root (no soil or container) to keep shipping safe and affordable.

  • Cold Weather Shipping: A 72-Hour Heat Pack is required if daytime or nighttime temperatures in your area are below 40°F. Orders shipped to freezing regions without a heat pack cannot be guaranteed against cold damage.

  • Winter Dormancy Note: Sarracenia shipped during winter dormancy will have old or dying pitchers trimmed down prior to packaging.
