Sarracenia leucophylla
Native to the longleaf pine savannas of the Southeastern United States, Sarracenia leucophylla is widely considered one of the most elegant and striking carnivorous plants in the world. It produces tall, slender trumpet pitchers topped with broad, dramatically ruffled hoods. The upper portion of each trap is covered in stark white "windows" (fenestrations) laced with intricate red, pink, or emerald-green veining, creating a stained-glass effect that lures flying insects. While it produces lovely pitchers in spring, S. leucophylla is famous for saved-for-last grandeur, sending up its largest, most vividly patterned traps in late summer and autumn.
Care Instructions:
Light:Full outdoor sun (6+ hours of direct, unfiltered sunlight daily). High light intensity is crucial for rigid, upright growth and vivid white-and-crimson contrast.
Water: Distilled, reverse osmosis, or rainwater only. Keep the pot sitting continuously in a shallow tray of water throughout spring, summer, and fall.
Soil: A 4:1 mix of pure peat moss and perlite. Never use standard potting soil or added fertilizers.
Temperature & Hardiness: Heat and cold-hardy (USDA Zones 6–9). Thrives in hot, sunny summer conditions up to 95°F+.
Winter Dormancy:Required. Demands a 3–4 month cool resting period between 32°F–50°F during winter. Pitchers will naturally turn brown and die back while the underground rhizome rests until new growth emerges in the Spring.
Shipping Information:
Bare-Root Delivery: All carnivorous plants are shipped bare-root (no soil or container) to keep shipping safe and affordable.
Cold Weather Shipping: A 72-Hour Heat Pack is required if daytime or nighttime temperatures in your area are below 40°F. Orders shipped to freezing regions without a heat pack cannot be guaranteed against cold damage.
Winter Dormancy Note: Sarracenia shipped during winter dormancy will have old or dying pitchers trimmed down prior to packaging.
