Pinguicula florian
A famous hybrid cross between Pinguicula debbertiana and Pinguicula jaumavensis, Pinguicula 'Florian' is one of the most vividly colored butterworts available. It forms compact, tightly packed rosettes of succulent leaves that act like living flypaper, covered in microscopic glistening droplets that easily trap fungus gnats and fruit flies. Under bright lighting, the entire plant transforms from soft green to a deep pinkish-purple to glowing ruby-red hue. To top off its visual charm, 'Florian' frequently rewards growers with charming, tubed flowers in shades of violet-purple on delicate stems.
Care Instructions:
Light: Bright, indirect light or high-output indoor grow lights (12–14 hours daily). Strong lighting is essential to trigger its signature bright pink and magenta foliage color.
Water: Distilled, reverse osmosis, or rainwater only. Keep the media lightly moist via a tray during active summer growth, allowing the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. Reduce water significantly in winter.
Soil: Mineral-heavy, well-draining substrate—an equal mix of perlite, pumice, washed horticultural sand, and a small touch of peat moss. Never use standard fertilized potting soil.
Temperature & Hardiness: Prefers 60°F–80°F. Grown indoors as a houseplant or setup specimen year-round; protect from freezing conditions.
Succulent Winter Phase:Enters a dry seasonal phase. Under shorter days and cooler temperatures, it shrinks into a compact, non-carnivorous succulent rosette. Keep the substrate nearly dry during this resting period until carnivorous leaves reappear in spring.
Shipping Information:
Bare-Root Delivery: All carnivorous plants are shipped bare-root (no soil or container) to keep shipping safe and affordable.
Cold Weather Shipping: A 72-Hour Heat Pack is required if daytime or nighttime temperatures in your area are below 40°F. Orders shipped to freezing regions without a heat pack cannot be guaranteed against cold damage.
