Pinguicula laueana x emarginata
This exceptional Mexican hybrid pairs two highly sought-after species: Pinguicula laueana (famous for its rare, vibrant red flowers) and Pinguicula emarginata (prized for its compact rosette structure and heavy, frequent blooming). The result is a tough, beautifully proportioned butterwort with rounded, spoon-like leaves that flush a rich crimson to deep purple under strong light. Naturally covered in glistening adhesive glands, it makes short work of indoor fungus gnats while putting on a frequent display of showy blossoms.
Care Instructions:
Light: Bright indirect light to strong direct sun, or high-output LED grow lights (intense lighting brings out its signature deep red foliage tones).
Water: Distilled, reverse osmosis, or rainwater only (tap water minerals damage the roots). Keep soil damp using a shallow water tray during active growth.
Soil: A mix of equal parts pumice, perlite, coarse sand, and peat moss. Never use standard potting soil or fertilizers.
Temperature & Hardiness: Prefers 65°F–82°F. Subtropical (USDA Zones 10–11)—grow indoors year-round as a windowsill or terrarium specimen.
Dry Succulent Phase (Dormancy): Thanks to its P. emarginata lineage, this hybrid stays somewhat semi-carnivorous and grows more actively through winter than standard Mexican species. However, as day length shortens, it will still compact into a tighter resting rosette. Reduce watering significantly over winter, keeping the substrate barely moist until spring growth rebounds.
Shipping Information:
Bare-Root Delivery: All carnivorous plants are shipped bare-root (no soil or container) to keep shipping safe and affordable.
Cold Weather Shipping: A 72-Hour Heat Pack is required if daytime or nighttime temperatures in your area are below 40°F. Orders shipped to freezing regions without a heat pack cannot be guaranteed against cold damage.
