Pinguicula primuliflora
Native to the damp pinelands and bogs of the southeastern United States, Pinguicula primuliflora features bright lime-green, tongue-shaped leaves coated in a fine, sticky dew that traps fungus gnats and fruit flies. Unlike Mexican butterworts, this warmth-loving warm-temperate species thrives in consistently boggy conditions and is famous for producing novel plantlets directly at the tips of its mature leaves, making it a rewarding species to grow and propagate.
Care Instructions:
Light: Bright indirect light to gentle morning sun, or high-output LED grow lights (avoid harsh, midday summer heat).
Water: Distilled, reverse osmosis, or rainwater only (tap water minerals are harmful). Keep soil consistently wet year-round using the tray method—this species prefers more moisture than Mexican Pinguicula.
Soil: A mix of equal parts pumice, perlite, coarse silica sand, and peat moss. Never use standard potting soil or added fertilizers.
Temperature & Hardiness: Prefers 65°F–82°F. Subtropical/warm-temperate hardiness (USDA Zones 8–10); can handle light winter chills down to 41°F, but must be protected from freezing.
Dormancy:No dry succulent phase. It remains carnivorous year-round, undergoing only a mild slowdown in growth during cooler, shorter winter days. Keep the substrate damp at all times.
Shipping Information:
Bare-Root Delivery: All carnivorous plants are shipped bare-root (no soil or container) to keep shipping safe and affordable.
Cold Weather Shipping: A 72-Hour Heat Pack is required if daytime or nighttime temperatures in your area are below 40°F. Orders shipped to freezing regions without a heat pack cannot be guaranteed against cold damage.
