Pinguicula agnata 'Potosiensis'

$19.99

Originating from the high-altitude regions of San Luis Potosí, Mexico, Pinguicula agnata 'Potosí' is a standout variety of the classic P. agnata. Unlike standard green butterworts, this selection is renowned for its broad, spoon-shaped leaves that transform from bright green to an intense plum-purple or magenta blush under intense lighting. Coated in a heavy layer of glistening, sticky mucilage glands, it serves as a highly efficient, living flypaper trap for fungus gnats, fruit flies, and fruit gnats while producing charming white-to-pale-violet flowers.

Care Instructions:

  • Light: Bright, indirect light to moderate direct sun, or high-output LED grow lights (intense light is essential to trigger its signature purple-violet coloration).

  • Water: Distilled, reverse osmosis, or rainwater only (tap water minerals will harm roots). Keep the substrate damp in spring and summer using a shallow tray of water.

  • Soil: A mix of equal parts perlite, pumice, coarse sand, and peat moss. Never use standard potting soil or added fertilizers.

  • Temperature & Hardiness: Prefers 65°F–82°F. Subtropical (USDA Zones 10–11)—cultivate indoors as a windowsill or terrarium specimen year-round.

  • Dry Succulent Phase (Dormancy): Like most Mexican species, it enters a succulent phase in winter as light levels drop. The plant contracts into a tight, non-sticky rosette of fleshy leaves. During this resting period, stop tray watering and allow the soil substrate to dry out almost completely between light surface waterings until new growth emerges in spring.

Shipping Information:

  • Bare-Root Delivery: All carnivorous plants are shipped bare-root (no soil or container) to keep shipping safe and affordable.

  • Cold Weather Shipping: A 72-Hour Heat Pack is required if daytime or nighttime temperatures in your area are below 40°F. Orders shipped to freezing regions without a heat pack cannot be guaranteed against cold damage.
