Pinguicula guatemala
Originating from high-altitude mountain cloud forests of Guatemala, Pinguicula 'Guatemala' (often associated with species like P. mesophytica or geographical P. moranensis forms) is prized for its hardy, adaptable growth habit. It forms a neat, symmetrical rosette of vibrant lime-green leaves that develop a soft reddish-bronze edge under high-intensity lighting. Coated in microscopic, sticky glands that glisten like dew, it acts as an effortless natural control for indoor fungus gnats and fruit flies while producing lovely violet-to-magenta blooms.
Care Instructions:
Light: Bright, indirect light to moderate direct sun, or high-output LED grow lights (strong light enhances growth rate and subtle edge pigmentation).
Water: Distilled, reverse osmosis, or rainwater only (tap water minerals cause root damage). Keep substrate consistently damp during its active spring and summer growth using a shallow tray of water.
Soil: A mix of equal parts pumice, perlite, coarse sand, and peat. Never use standard potting soil or added fertilizers.
Temperature & Hardiness: Prefers 65°F–82°F. Subtropical (USDA Zones 10–11)—best grown indoors year-round on a bright windowsill or in a terrarium.
Dry Succulent Phase (Dormancy): In winter as day length decreases, it transitions into a dry resting phase, forming a compact, non-sticky succulent rosette. During this period, stop tray watering and allow the soil substrate to dry out between light surface waterings until spring growth resumes.
Shipping Information:
Bare-Root Delivery: All carnivorous plants are shipped bare-root (no soil or container) to keep shipping safe and affordable.
Cold Weather Shipping: A 72-Hour Heat Pack is required if daytime or nighttime temperatures in your area are below 40°F. Orders shipped to freezing regions without a heat pack cannot be guaranteed against cold damage.
