Pinguicula gypsicola x agnata
This spectacular hybrid combines two distinct Mexican species: Pinguicula gypsicola (famous for its narrow, octopus-like leaves) and Pinguicula agnata (known for its wide foliage and tough, forgiving nature). The result is a unique butterwort with elongated, narrow leaves that arch outwards in a starburst pattern. Under strong lighting, the foliage flushes a beautiful blush-pink to copper-bronze. Heavily lined with sticky mucilage glands, it is a outstanding natural trap for fungus gnats and fruit flies.
Care Instructions:
Light: Bright, indirect light to direct sun, or high-output LED grow lights (intense light brings out its dramatic pink and bronze coloration).
Water: Distilled, reverse osmosis, or rainwater only (tap water minerals cause root damage). Keep substrate damp during its active spring and summer growth using a shallow water tray.
Soil: A mix of equal parts pumice, perlite, coarse sand, and peat. Never use standard potting soil or fertilizers.
Temperature & Hardiness: 65°F–82°F. Subtropical (USDA Zones 10–11)—grow indoors year-round on sunny windowsills or in terrariums.
Dry Succulent Phase (Dormancy): In winter as day length decreases, it inherits P. gypsicola's distinct resting habit. The long sticky leaves die back, and the plant forms a small, tight bulb-like rosette. During this phase, stop tray watering and keep the soil almost completely dry until new carnivorous leaves emerge in spring.
Shipping Information:
Bare-Root Delivery: All carnivorous plants are shipped bare-root (no soil or container) to keep shipping safe and affordable.
Cold Weather Shipping: A 72-Hour Heat Pack is required if daytime or nighttime temperatures in your area are below 40°F. Orders shipped to freezing regions without a heat pack cannot be guaranteed against cold damage.
