Venus Flytrap 'Red Piranha'
Created by renowned breeder Edward Read, the Dionaea muscipula 'Red Piranha' cultivar produces short, sharply triangular, jagged teeth that closely resemble the serrated jaw of a piranha. Under strong direct sunlight, the entire plant—from its wide petition stems to the inner and outer surfaces of the traps—flushes an irresistible, uniform shade of deep burgundy to dark crimson.
Care Instructions:
Light:Full outdoor sun (6+ hours of direct sunlight daily). Intense lighting is strictly required to achieve and maintain its signature all-red color.
Water: Distilled, reverse osmosis, or rainwater only (tap water minerals cause rapid decay). Keep substrate sitting in a shallow tray of water constantly during the growing season.
Soil: A 4:1 mix of peat moss and perlite (or long-fiber sphagnum moss). Never use standard potting soil or added fertilizers.
Temperature & Hardiness: Prefers 68°F–90°F during summer. Temperate native (USDA Zones 7–9)—thrives outdoors in full sun during spring, summer, and fall.
Winter Dormancy:Required. From late autumn to early spring, the plant enters a cool resting period between 32°F–50°F. Leaves and traps may turn black and die back while the bulb rests underground; keep soil damp until spring growth returns.
Shipping Information:
Bare-Root Delivery: All carnivorous plants are shipped bare-root (no soil or container) to keep shipping safe and affordable.
Cold Weather Shipping: A 72-Hour Heat Pack is required if daytime or nighttime temperatures in your area are below 40°F. Orders shipped to freezing regions without a heat pack cannot be guaranteed against cold damage.
